The Buddhist Contest

Over at Blogisattva there are awards coming up for Buddhist blogging. The categories are incredibly numerous and the nominees familiar to anyone who’s Googled Buddhism more than once. Reminded me a little of the Yoga games brought to you by none other than Bikram “patent that” Choudhury wherein postures are judged and prizes given.

Even though the categories are many, there still seems to be a few that haven’t been covered. Let me suggest a few more:

  • Best use of the word Abhidharma as a verb. As in, “Don’t you go and Abhidharma me.” Meaning to psychologically deconstruct another’s behavior from a Buddhist perspective.
  • Most creative Dana request.
  • Best photo of a kesa sewn totally from on-line instructions.
  • Best Buddhist related widget included in a blog
  • Best demonstration of sunyata (emptiness) . No words, sounds, codes, movies or photos can be involved.
  • Best on-line instructions for practice. Virtual zendos are popping up like daisies.
  • Best on-line dharma duel. As I write this there seems to be two sets of nominees. The Jundo Cohen/Brad Warner combo and the Urban Monk/Hoodie Monk duo. In both cases a shared teacher is the common factor. Ahhh sibling rivalry. One could also add the Brad Warner/Genpo pair as well. Looks like there may be a full field in this category.
  • The Venerable Personality Award. Just like in the Miss World pageant.

No doubt a few more will pop into my head. I’ll just tack them on to this list or in the comments or something.

Love it. Also, the duel one is a great suggestion.

  2. … and, now, the winner of the NellaLou Snarkiness Award!

[I think you should get a new dress and turn pro, NellaLou. You Dharma Wars post is my favorite post in 2010. If only I was a judge, sigh.]

    • Thanks Tom.

Unfortunately my snark tank is running on fumes these days. Not sure why. Maybe too much energy spent fending off “Buddhists”

        • It’s just the accumulation not any big thing. Like a thousand mosquito bites. When it comes again and again “You can’t do that” (Yes I can), “You shouldn’t do that.” (Why not? -never any answer), “That’s not Buddhist” (Then what is? -again no answer), “You’re wrong” (Why? -no answer). It’s not like I’m so thin skinned, but there is a certain erosion factor that gets tiring. I watch here in the mountains how the rain erodes them, sometimes gently and sometimes with landslides and avalanches but they keep pushing up even higher from underneath-that deep earth molten energy. That’s the cycle of practice. Even knowing that though doesn’t make it less annoying sometimes.

    • And due to the time frame of the Blogisattvas that particular post is not eligible. But your endorsement is much appreciated.
